Weed Wednesday In Congress

We are expecting at least 6, count ’em, 6 marijuana-related appropriations amendments on Wednesday. All are pro-marijuana and tie the Justice Department’s hands when it comes to enforcing drug laws in the United States. Here are a few examples:

  • An amendment prohibiting the Justice Department from using federal funds to interfere with state medical marijuana laws. Reps. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA ) and Sam Farr (D-CA )
  • An amendment prohibiting the Justice Department from using federal funds to interfere with any state marijuana law, including laws permitting the recreational use of pot. Reps. Tom McClintock (R-CA) and Jared Polis (D-CO)
  • An amendment protecting state hemp laws from Justice Department interference. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR)

While the California delegation’s interest in medical marijuana was expected, Rep. McClintock’s co-sponsorship of the recreational use amendment may be an indication that Big Canna has California locked in as the next recreational use state.
