The Korea Herald writes:… Tillerson’s shortened diplomatic consultations and public events in Seoul spawned a flurry of speculation given a leadership vacuum and political uncertainties. A joint news conference aside, Tillerson spent almost two and a half hours with Japanese Foreign Minister [Fumio] Kishida, including a dinner, and another hour with Prime Minister Abe. But his meetings with [Seoul’s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se] and [acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn] were each confined to about an hour, without a lunch or dinner gathering. Seoul officials said the U.S. side opted not to have a meal together, citing the secretary’s “fatigue.”
The median age of survival for Canadians with cystic fibrosis was 50, and only 40 for Americans, researchers found after six years of analysis.
I’m, literally, sitting here weeping with joy at the news that there are parents out there with kids with Cystic Fibrosis who are living to 50 years old. And beyond. 50 years of being able to hold your child. 50 years of being able to tell them RIGHT TO THEIR FACE how much you love them. 50 years of hearing their voice and gazing at their beautiful face. 50 years before you have to watch the light go out of their eyes and feel what can’t be described.
Of course, that is in Canada. In the US, we take 10 of those years away. We let our children with Cystic Fibrosis die 10 years earlier. We sacrifice 10 years of their lives. 10 more years of waking up each day trying to understand why. 10 more years of suddenly bursting into tears just out of nowhere. 10 more years of a pain in your chest that is so intense you feel like you’re dying…and you don’t care. 10 more years of your wife saying “I don’t think you should watch that” whenever a movie or TV show has a scene where a child dies. 10 more years of disbelief and still trying to make a deal with God to take you but just let him come back.
Please God. Just for one minute.
All of this to maintain the most unethical, inefficient, cruel, evil health care system in the developed world. Because it makes a fortune for the privileged few.
Brandon Geoffrey Ware would have been 35 this year. But he’s not.
It’s not joy any longer. Damn each and every person that supports this madness.
President Donald Trump has been drawing a salary — despite pledging not to during the campaign and after the election — but plans to donate the money to charity, according to press secretary Sean Spicer. With almost two months of service as president of the United States under his belt, Donald Trump has earned over $50,000 in salary. Spicer says that money will be given away by the end of 2017.
This entire presidency is starting to read like a very bad airport novel.
Nothing new here but it is all neatly wrapped up in a well written article.
I don’t think I’m angry with Donald Trump. At the end of the day, his is a single vote and his opinions are his (no matter how vile). He can’t elect himself President.
It is those of you who support him that are a disgrace to this country and everything it purports to stand for. It is your hate and vitriol that pit us against each other. It is your vile evil that keeps the racist, xenophobic, misogynistic engine going in this country that leads to murders and torture and rape of anyone that isn’t like them.
And you are aided by those who don’t act against Trump. The amoebas of the American body politic. You don’t act until an outside force acts directly upon you. You are the same people that inhabited Germany in the 1920s. You speak of some things the tyrant brings that you agree with and a secret knowledge that he isn’t “as bad as he seems”. You keep saying that over and over and over until the knock is finally on your door. Then you look for help. You demand that those who sacrificed from the beginning rescue you from the hero that you may not have chosen but you didn’t speak against.
Both of you, fans and enablers, are the last gasp of the bad that has infected America since its founding. Don’t get me wrong, we will eventually push you both into that fading light because, in the end, the arc of history does bend toward justice.
Trump is simply you raging. And, eventually, all raging goes silent.
